Church Building Project

The first Catholic church in Atebubu was built in 1984 by the Irish missionary priest Fr. Martin Buckley — after whom our founder was named. For years, the church struggled to accommodate the growing number of the faithful. People had to walk three to four miles to attend Mass, leaving many either unable to come or joining other non-Catholic denominations.

In 2018, a new Catholic community — Immaculate Conception — was established in another part of Atebubu to serve the growing population. Unfortunately, this community has no church building and is forced to worship and celebrate Mass entirely outdoors, with no structure to protect them from rain or harsh weather.

Through your generous contributions, a church building project is currently underway in Atebubu. This project aims to provide a decent, permanent church where the faithful can celebrate the sacraments and practice their faith with dignity. The project is expected to be completed and dedicated by August 2027.
